Cardiac and Respiratory Rehabilitation Program

What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Our rehab program is designed for the promotion, prevention and recovery of a healthy-heart lifestyle for the people of Northumberland County. Participants and their families learn the skill and gain the knowledge to take responsibility for their heart health. Participants will achieve a sense of accomplishment and lasting well being. A dynamic multi-disciplinary team of professionals provide education, counseling and exercise intervention to achieve individualized risk factor modification.

Who should consider Cardiac Rehabilitation?

The Cardiac Rehab Program is for individuals who have or have had:

  • Heart Surgery
  • Heart Attack (MI)
  • Angina
  • Angioplasty
  • Diabetes
  • High Risk for developing a Heart Condition
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cholesterol
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Minor Stroke

  • Improve fitness level
  • Rid your fears of increased physical activity after a heart attack
  • Increase your knowledge of heart disease, diet, and risk factors
  • Increase the power of the heart
  • Improved weight control
  • Improved self confidence

Come Join Us!

The program is 12 months in length, with exercise sessions 2 times per week for the first 6 months, followed by once a month for the next 6 months. The exercise sessions are one hour in length with an educational session once a week.

Respiratory Rehabilitation

Our Respiratory Rehabilitation Service is designed to help persons with chronic lung disease increase their ability to live independently in the community and overcome the limitation resulting from their disease. The program combines endurance training, education, and disease symptom and disability management to contribute to improved quality of life.

This Program Targets people with:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Restrictive Pulmonary Disorders
  • Pre/Post Surgery
  • Adult Cystic Fibrosis

Goals:

  • Optimize quality of life
  • Reduce the intensity and fear of shortness of breath
  • Prevent or reduce hospitalization
