What is Naturopathic Therapy
Naturopathic Therapy is a unique therapy program that combines both modern scientific knowledge with traditional medicine. It is based on naturopathic principles that stimulates the body’s own healing power and treats the underlying cause of disease. In naturopathic medicine, diseases are emphasized as a process rather than an entity.
Naturopathic treatments are chosen based on the patient’s specific needs, which may incorporate botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, and naturopathic manipulation. Diet and lifestyle changes are often recommended and combined as part of treatment.
What is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND)?
Naturopathic Medicine is a four-year professional College program which includes medical science and health science courses common to a medical education, with the added benefit of learning botanical medicine, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, homoeopathy, counselling, acupuncture, and clinical nutrition as treatment options.
During their final year at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario, students intern for one year in Naturopathic Clinics under the supervision of a Naturopathic Doctor registered with the Ontario College of Naturopaths. Following that internship, the graduate can be registered to practice in a Province as a Registered Health-Care Professional, entitled to use the professional ND designation.
What are the Benefits of Naturopathy?
Naturopathic medicine focuses on stimulating the healing power of the body to treat the root cause of the underlying disease. What sets it apart is that it goes beyond only diagnosing a single symptom and focuses on treating the whole person. This unique approach makes naturopathic therapy effective for all kinds of health concerns from common symptoms to chronic illnesses. Naturopathic medicine is also recommended for patients diagnosed with serious illnesses looking for other options that combine both conventional and natural therapy with less side effects, drugs use, or surgery. Naturopathic doctors are often able to provide new perspectives and effective methods to heal the body.
Naturopathic doctors can help support the healing process in many conditions including:
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Women’s health (perimenopause, menopause, menstrual issues, sexual concerns, prevention of breast and gynecological cancers)
- Men’s health (prostate enlargement, weight issues, heart diseases, sexual concerns)
- Fatigue (long-term stress, viruses, sleep apnea, viruses, etc)
- Mental health including anxiety and depression
- Insomnia and sleep issues
- Digestive concerns
- Muscle pain
What to Expect at We-Fix-U’s Naturopathic Therapy Session
Every Naturopathic Therapy program is based on a philosophy of health care which integrates the mind-body-spirit connection. This approach creates a positive approach for Dr. David Manning, ND’s entire Naturopathic Care and support practice.
Each Naturopathic Therapy program developed by Dr. David Manning, ND is based on his analysis of the best way to treat that client’s unique problems. He develops this analysis during his initial consultation, during which he has allocated sufficient time to understand and assess the individual client’s condition. Dr. Manning brings to this assessment not only his training and experience as a Naturopathic Doctor but also his background as a certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher with 6 years experience, his personal Yoga practice for 15+ years, and his experience as a certified personal trainer at the YMCA and as a rehabilitation assistant in a specialized accident recovery physiotherapy clinic in British Columbia
As a result of this broad experience, he tailors each Naturopathic Therapy program to the client’s condition, so it may recommend lifestyle and physical activity changes combined with the appropriate botanical medicine supplements. Each Naturopathic Therapy program normally includes one or more recommended follow up visits at three month intervals to review the effectiveness of the Therapy and modify the program if necessary.
